1974 Rolex Daytona 6265 / 6263 'Paul Newman' Style - Vintage Men's Chronograph
SOLD $68,000.00 Sold: Nov 30, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
eBay 1974 Rolex Daytona Ref 6265 -- Refinished Paul Newman Dial + Original Sigma Dial + Box History:For your consideration, one of the most coveted timepieces in all of watch collecting. Over the past two decades, vintage Rolex Daytonas have proven one of the best asset classes to invest in (of all asset classes). The lineage culminates here, with the Rolex Reference 6262. With its screw-down pushers and oyster case, the Ref 6265 is the final evolution of the most iconic Rolex chronograph line in the famed house's history.Case Condition:The timepiece before is in fantastic condition for its age. Starting on top, the original, steel bezel retains its sharp contours with moderate lossing to the black lettering on the tachometer scale (which wears off quickly with repeated touching polishing) The aftermarket bakelite bezel is an exact match to the Ref 6263 bakelite bezel. Given the only difference between the Ref 6263 and Ref 6265 are the bezel, you are given the best of both worlds being able to swap between the two references at your desire. The case contours are show minor polishing wear, with no major dents, scratches, or dings anywhere on the case (a marvel, given these were a utility watch). The lugs present nice and thick, again an indication of minimal polishing / abuse. Dial to the wow factor of this watch, the timepiece comes fitted with a refinished, stepped Paul Newman (also called the "exotic") dial. "Stepped dial" meaning the outboard of the dial is stepped down from the rest of the dial, giving the dial beautiful layers and dimension. The beauty of this watch is that it also comes with the extremely rare, original, Rolex factory sigma dial and hands. For those that do not know, on a very select few Daytonas, Rolex upgraded the dials by using gold indices. They differentiated these dials by adding Greek “sigmas” flanking the “t swiss t” at six o’clock. Those small Greek letters add a lot of value and rarity to this timepiece. The dial is all original with relume above the gold hour markers. Service History:The timepiece and chronograph functions run properly and the watch keeps great time. Given the age, the watch would benefit from a cleaning to make operations (e.g. winding, chronograph resetting) a bit crisper should you desire -- but not an immediate requirement as the watch runs fine as is. There remains some light scratching on the crystal but minor and not noticeable (see photos). This watch will run without a need for service for years to come. Additional Rolex coffin box with inset This Vintage Daytona has all the beauty of a $250,000 Exotic / Paul Newman Ref 6263 Daytona while still retaining all original parts to preserve value. Should you wish to return this watch to an all OEM, stock Ref 6265 with Sigma Dial, every element is included and can be easily done. A eye-popping daily wearer that will appreciate in value. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, I love talking all things vintage Rolex Chronograph. I have bought and sold many, they are by far my favorite watch to own and wear. DFMWATCHES Return Policy: I 100% guarantee all watches I list are as described and authentic. Returns are offered on any of my watches if the watch is shown to be inauthentic by eBay’s authentication team. I am always happy to give my customers that peace of mind. I stand behind my pieces. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
