eBay In 1975, Steven Spielberg's movie "Jaws" was released, which became an instant classic. One of the longtime mysteries surrounding "Jaws" was not how to capture the shark, but rather the type of watch that Richard Dreyfuss wore during the movie. After years of research, the Hooper Jaws watch was finally identified as an Alsta Nautoscaph, which had a Valjoux 2452 Swiss movement inside and was state of the art in water resistance technology for its time. Alsta unfortunately went out of business in the late 1970s and the brand laid dormant for nearly 40 years, when the brand was revived and a recreation of this exact watch was released. Just to stress how rare an original Alsta Nautoscaph is, at the time of writing this, there are no other original Alsta Nautoscaphs for sale online so hoping this one makes it into the right collector's hands. Although the original Nautoscaph line originally came in many variations, this particular watch is the exact cushion-case version that Dreyfuss wore in Jaws, complete with the black and silver bezel, the glossy black dial, the coffin shaped indices with Arabic quadrants and oversized hands that give it a classic 1970s look. The Nautoscaph originally came with a Spiedel Mach 1 bracelet, the same as this watch, which wears incredibly well and is great for all purposes. The bezel is bidirectional, and functions great. I would recommend potentially tightening the retainer ring that holds the bezel in, but have never had issues with it coming loose during wear. The acrylic crystal shows imperfections from the inside, which can be easily replaced but I think it adds character to the watch. Typical scratches you'd expect on a 50 year old watch, but tried to capture as many of them as I can in the photos. Size wise, the watch is around 38mm in size, but it wears larger on the wrist due to the case shape.
